잠언(Prov.) 25:1 - 잠언(Prov.) 25:13

1	이것도 솔로몬의 잠언이요 유다 왕 히스기야의 신하들이 편집한 것이니라
2	일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영화요 일을 살피는 것은 왕의 영화니라
3	하늘의 높음과 땅의 깊음 같이 왕의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라
4	은에서 찌꺼기를 제하라 그리하면 장색의 쓸 만한 그릇이 나올 것이요
5	왕 앞에서 악한 자를 제하라 그리하면 그의 왕위가 의로 말이암아 견고히 서리라
6	왕 앞에서 스스로 높은 체하지 말며 대인들의 자리에 서지 말라
7	이는 사람이 네게 이리로 올라 오라고 말하는 것이 네 눈에 보이는 귀인 앞에서 저리로 내려 가라고 말하는 것보다 나음이니라
8	너는 서둘러 나가서 다투지 말라 마침내 네가 이웃에게서 욕을 보게 될 때에 네가 어찌할 줄을 알지 못할까 두려우니라
9	너는 이웃과 다투거든 변론만 하고 남의 은밀한 일은 누설하지 말라
10	듣는 자가 너를 꾸짖을 터이요 또 네게 대한 악평이 네게서 떠나지 아니할까 두려우니라
11	경우에 합당한 말은 아로새긴 은 쟁반에 금 사과니라
12	슬기로운 자의 책망은 청종하는 귀에 금 고리와 정금 장식이니라
13	충성된 사자는 그를 보낸 이에게 마치 추수하는 날에 얼음 냉수 같아서 능히 그 주인의 마음을 시원하게 하느니라

1 These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.

2   It is the glory of God to conceal things,
    but the glory of kings is to search things out.
3   As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth,
    so the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4   Take away the dross from the silver,
    and the smith has material for a vessel;
5   take away the wicked from the presence of the king,
    and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6   Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence
    or stand in the place of the great,
7   for it is better to be told, “Come up here,”
    than to be put lower in the presence of a noble.
  What your eyes have seen
8     do not hastily bring into court,¹
  for² what will you do in the end,
    when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9   Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
    and do not reveal another’s secret,
10   lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
    and your ill repute have no end.
11   A word fitly spoken
    is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
12   Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold
    is a wise reprover to a listening ear.
13   Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest
    is a faithful messenger to those who send him;
    he refreshes the soul of his masters.
