11	그가 문지기들을 부르매 그들이 왕궁에 있는 자에게 말하니
12	왕이 밤에 일어나 그의 신복들에게 이르되 아람 사람이 우리에게 행한 것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하노니 그들이 우리가 주린 것을 알고 있으므로 그 진영을 떠나서 들에 매복하고 스스로 이르기를 그들이 성읍에서 나오거든 우리가 사로잡고 성읍에 들어가겠다 한 것이니라 하니
13	그의 신하 중 한 사람이 대답하여 이르되 청하건대 아직 성중에 남아 있는 말 다섯 마리를 취하고 사람을 보내 정탐하게 하소서 그들이 성중에 남아 있는 이스라엘 온 무리 곧 멸망한 이스라엘 온 무리와 같으니이다 하고
14	그들이 병거 둘과 그 말들을 취한지라 왕이 아람 군대 뒤로 보내며 가서 정탐하라 하였더니
15	그들이 그들의 뒤를 따라 요단에 이른즉 아람 사람이 급히 도망하느라고 버린 의복과 병기가 길에 가득하였더라 사자가 돌아와서 왕에게 알리니
16	백성들이 나가서 아람 사람의 진영을 노략한지라 이에 고운 밀가루 한 스아에 한 세켈이 되고 보리 두 스아가 한 세겔이 되니 여호와의 말씀과 같이 되었고
17	왕이 그의 손에 의지하였던 그의 장관을 세워 성문을 지키게 하였더니 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 하나님의 사람의 말대로 죽었으니 곧 왕이 내려왔을 때에 그가 말한 대로라
18	하나님의 사람이 왕에게 말한 바와 같으니 이르기를 내일 이맘 때에 사마리아 성문에서 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 한즉
19	그 때에 이 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이 일이 있으랴 하매 대답하기를 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하였더니
20	그의 장관에게 그대로 이루어졌으니 곧 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 죽었더라

2 Kings 7:11–20 (Listen)

11 Then the gatekeepers called out, and it was told within the king’s household. 12 And the king rose in the night and said to his servants, “I will tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the open country, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive and get into the city.’” 13 And one of his servants said, “Let some men take five of the remaining horses, seeing that those who are left here will fare like the whole multitude of Israel who have already perished. Let us send and see.” 14 So they took two horsemen, and the king sent them after the army of the Syrians, saying, “Go and see.” 15 So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16 Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD. 17 Now the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. And the people trampled him in the gate, so that he died, as the man of God had said when the king came down to him. 18 For when the man of God had said to the king, “Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria,” 19 the captain had answered the man of God, “If the LORD himself should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” 20 And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate and he died.
