열왕기하(2 Kgs.) 17:1 - 열왕기하(2 Kgs.) 17:12

1	유다의 왕 아하스 제십이년에 엘라의 아들 호세아가 사마리아에서 이스라엘 왕이 되어 구 년간 다스리며
2	여호와께서 보시기에 악을 행하였으나 다만 그 전 이스라엘 여러 왕들과 같이 하지는 아니하였더라
3	앗수르의 왕 살만에셀이 올라오니 호세아가 그에게 종이 되어 조공을 드리더니
4	그가 애굽의 왕 소에게 사자들을 보내고 해마다 하던 대로 앗수르 왕에게 조공을 드리지 아니하매 앗수르 왕이 호세아가 배반함을 보고 그를 옥에 감금하여 두고
5	앗수르 왕이 올라와 그 온 땅에 두루다니고 사마리아로 올라와 그 곳을 삼 년간 에워쌌더라
6	호세아 제구년에 앗수르 왕이 사마리아를 점령하고 이스라엘 사람을 사로잡아 앗수르로 끌어다가 고산 강 가에 있는 할라와 하볼과 메대 사람의 여러 고을에 두었더라
7	이 일은 이스라엘 자손이 자기를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내사 애굽의 왕 바로의 손에서 벗어나게 하신 그 하나님 여호와께 죄를 범하고 또 다른 신들을 경외하며
8	여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 쫓아내신 이방 사람의 규례와 이스라엘 여러 왕이 세운 율례를 행하였음이라
9	이스라엘의 자손이 점차로 불의를 행하여 그 하나님 여호와를 배역하여 모든 성읍에 망대로부터 견고한 성에 이르도록 산당을 세우고
10	모든 산 위에와 모든 푸른 나무 아래에 목상과 아세라 상을 세우고
11	또 여호와께서 그들 앞에서 물리치신 이방 사람 같이 그 곳 모든 산당에서 분향하며 또 악을 행하여 여호와를 격노하게 하였으며
12	또 우상을 섬겼으니 이는 여호와께서 그들에게 행하지 말라고 말씀하신 일이라

Hoshea Reigns in Israel

1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel, and he reigned nine years. 2 And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him. 3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria. And Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute. 4 But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison. 5 Then the king of Assyria invaded all the land and came to Samaria, and for three years he besieged it.

The Fall of Israel

6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Exile Because of Idolatry

7 And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods 8 and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. 9 And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city. 10 They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, 11 and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. And they did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger, 12 and they served idols, of which the LORD had said to them, “You shall not do this.”
