57	저물었을 때에 아리마대의 부자 요셉이라 하는 사람이 왔으니 그도 예수의 제자라
58	빌라도에게 가서 예수의 시체를 달라 하니 이에 빌라도가 내주라 명령하거늘
59	요셉이 시체를 가져다가 깨끗한 세마포로 싸서
60	바위 속에 판 자기 새 무덤에 넣어 두고 큰 돌을 굴려 무덤 문에 놓고 가니
61	거기 막달라 마리아와 다른 마리아가 무덤을 향하여 앉았더라
62	그 이튿날은 준비일 다음 날이라 대제사장들과 바리새인들이 함께 빌라도에게 모여 이르되
63	주여 저 속이던 자가 살아 있을 때에 말하되 내가 사흘 후에 다시 살아나리라 한 것을 우리가 기억하노니
64	그러므로 명령하여 그 무덤을 사흘까지 굳게 지키게 하소서 그의 제자들이 와서 시체를 도둑질하여 가고 백성에게 말하되 그가 죽은 자 가운데서 살아났다 하면 후의 속임이 전보다 더 클까 하나이다 하니
65	빌라도가 이르되 너희에게 경비병이 있으니 가서 힘대로 굳게 지키라 하거늘
66	그들이 경비병과 함께 가서 돌을 인봉하고 무덤을 굳게 지키니라

Jesus Is Buried

57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.

The Guard at the Tomb

62 The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard¹ of soldiers. Go, make it as secure as you can.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.
