(6) “Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against.”

Today Isaiah began with a warning to those who want to ask Egypt for support. It shows that they have been relying on the strength of Egypt instead of depending on their God. Isaiah was telling them that God would not take back His words and rise against the wicked and against their helpers. Isaiah reminded the people that the Egyptians are mere human and not God. Both the one who helped and were helped would stumble and fail together. In verse 6 Isaiah was saying that the people of Israel needed to repent and return to God. Also he said that on the day they would throw away their idols and images, Assyria would be destroyed by the sword of God, not by the swords of men.

Today’s message teaches that Egypt represented man’s strength and wisdom, and but our safety could only be found when we humbly repent and return to God. If we would turn back to God, however, He would watch over us and protect us like a mother bird defending its nest. But the people of Israel had been trusting in their own idea and failed to understand how much they needed God. It showed how easy I could fall into the same trap thinking that the strength of ‘Egypt’s chariots’ could rescue me. This made me to reflect on myself that I prayed naturally and asked God’s help in my time of need, but it had not been always the first thing I did. I realized how often I had waited until I was forced into a corner before going to Him. My wisdom and idea is telling me that I need to increase my strength by an alliance with others, but today’s message tells me that I need to humble myself and return to Him by throwing away the things I have depended on first. Today I will look back my past decisions which were based on my personal wisdom rather than on God’s direction.
