(11) “Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your fine clothes and wrap yourselves in rags...”

In yesterday’s verse 8, Isaiah told us about the noble man who plans to do what is generous, and he stands firm by his noble deeds. In contrast to the noble man’s wisdom, Isaiah gives the warnings to the complacent women today. Their minds were too busy with things in this world and felt secure about their feature. They lived their lives without any concerns for the will and plans of God. Isaiah warned them that in a little while they would be punished because of their complacency. Therefore, Isaiah called on those women to be awakened from their indolent life and to prepare to receive the Sprit when it would be poured on us from heaven. Then because of His righteousness, we would live in peace and safety even if the outside of the world should be torn down.

I think today’s passage is promising us that if we, as the believers, would be filled with the Holy Spirit and live according to the standard of His Word, our relationships with God would be restored. And we would be able to live in safety, quietly at our places. By the same token, Isaiah demands me today that to live with the assurance that God would protect and care for me, I need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and live in obedience to the will of Him. This obedience would bring quietness to my life, and I would live in security in undisturbed place by the violent whirlpool of outside, like the tragedy in Las Vegas. Since today’s message reminds me how to be a man of courage, I do my best to be bold with the confidence because of the Spirit in me.
