(24) “Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the LORD Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel.”

“Sorrow for those… no one to rescue them.”

Yesterday Isaiah spoke out against those who chased after a drink of alcohol and the party but never paid attention to the LORD and His way. He called them a foolish people who dragged their sins behind them with ropes made of lies wherever they went.

Also today, Isaiah tells us that they denied the word of God and challenged the way of life what the Lord said. They are the people who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. They also take bribes to justify the wicked and deprive the rights of those who were the innocent. Therefore, Isaiah says in verse 24 that the Lord would judge their sins just as fire licks up stubble and dry grass. They were rejected because they disregarded the word of God. Isaiah declares that God was very angry with His People and would strike them down by bringing other nations army like roaring lions. Dead bodies would fill the streets like refuse but still God’s anger would not be turned away. There would be no one to rescue them in that day.

The passage today showed me the lifestyle of a foolish people who did not understand what real true life was all about. They are the one who produced bitter grapes when the Lord expected sweet grapes. When He expected much more from them, they had produced so little instead. Even though ‘the Owner’ had invested everything necessary for them, they had turned their backs on Him. It showed me enough of reasons for the judgment described in the passage. Simultaneously it reminded me about my responsibility to produce the fruit which is worthy of what God has invested in me. Today I will take time to reflect on my past life to see what God had done for me to make me productive and fruitful.
